Forty-five mothers of children living with cystic fibrosis registered for our fourth annual We Walk Together Mother’s Retreat. Another fifteen moms were added to a waitlist. The response was significant and speaks to the great need for caregivers to have a safe place for sharing their stories and developing bonds with other moms on a similar journey.
Thanks to our generous donors, we were able to purchase special care packages for each mom.
Kecia Nelson, a CF social worker from Columbia Missouri, presented on self-care in hard times. Her presentation had a big impact on the mothers and opened up a lot of good discussions. Isabel Stenzel Byrnes, also a social worker who lives with CF herself, presented on journaling. Mothers were given time to journal and then share what they had written in small groups. The journaling exercise has been a part of each of our mother’s retreats and always gives space for deep processing.
Even though our retreat was virtual this year, the moms who attended were given strength and hope.
